Echocardiography is one of the highest-volume diagnostic workflows in cardiology, and demand is increasing as cardiovascular disease grows faster than the specialist workforce available to manage it. Across Europe, the reporting burden already represents millions of examinations that need to be measured, compared with prior studies, interpreted against increasingly detailed guidelines and translated into a final report. The difficult part is not simply obtaining measurements, but making sure the relevant findings are considered together and that important or contradictory information is not missed. That is what makes echocardiography reporting a clinical task, not an administrative one.
MediRapp is the Swiss cardiology software company behind EchoRapp, which was originally developed by cardiologist and software developer Dr. Schlomo Aschkenasy in his own clinical practice in Zurich, Switzerland. EchoRapp has now received CE Mark Class IIa under the EU MDR, which opens its use for clinics across Europe. With the CE Mark, EchoRapp can now support the full post-acquisition echocardiography workflow in clinical use, from reviewing and completing measurements to guideline-based interpretation and an LLM-assisted report ready for final review and sign-off.
The clinical value goes beyond automated measurements: EchoRapp brings measurements, changes from prior examinations and guideline criteria together into a complete, internally consistent assessment. For the first time, cardiologists, fellows and sonographers can use EchoRapp across this entire workflow, with each step contributing directly to the final report.
Cardiovascular disease affects hundreds of million people, while cardiologists are being asked to see more patients in less time. That is where the treatment gap starts: under that pressure, important findings can be missed, guidelines are harder to apply consistently, and patients may not receive the follow-up or treatment they need. EchoRapp gives clinicians flexibility in how they work with measurements. They can import them directly from the echo machine, perform them manually, or use AI-assisted measurements and review them before they are included in the report. More than 350 measurements are then linked to the relevant clinical guidelines and organised around the assessment being made. Findings are also interpreted together rather than in isolation. Guideline-based tutorials are available directly within the report, so fellows and sonographers can learn the reasoning as they apply it in practice.
The same workflow works for a cardiologist completing the whole examination alone, or for larger echo labs where sonographers and fellows prepare the study and senior cardiologists review and sign the final report. The final assessment is brought into a structured, certified LLM-assisted report, which organizes reviewed clinical findings and highlights relevant changes from prior examinations — keeping measurements, clinical reasoning and reporting connected from start to finish.
We are proud that cardiologists can now use EchoRapp for some of the most demanding parts of echocardiography, including the new diastolic function guidelines, the full assessment of aortic stenosis with pressure recovery, and the detailed measurements required for prosthetic valves.
