Simple approach
Review reservoir strain first. Conduit and contraction strain add context but are more dependent on rhythm, loading, and tracking quality.
Detailed tutorial
LA strain is most useful when the tracing quality is good and the rhythm is stable. Interpret the values with rhythm, filling pressure, and valve disease in mind.
- Reservoir strain reflects atrial filling during ventricular systole.
- Conduit strain reflects passive emptying.
- Contraction strain reflects active atrial contraction and is not meaningful in atrial fibrillation.
When imported from vendor software, confirm that the measurement convention matches the report convention.
