Left atrium overview
The left atrium section groups volume, AP diameter, strain, and appendage status so size and function can be reviewed together.

Simple approach
Start with indexed LA volume as the primary size metric. Use AP diameter as a quick parasternal cross-check, then review LA strain when speckle tracking is available.
Detailed tutorial
The redesigned LA surface is organized by clinical question:
- LA volume: selected source and indexed volume.
- AP diameter: parasternal long-axis diameter and indexed diameter.
- LA strain: reservoir, conduit, and contraction components.
- Appendage: device closure status when a WATCHMAN, Amulet, or similar device is present.
Use the source picker to review where the selected LA volume came from. Auto-selection should prefer the highest-quality biplane measurement when several candidates exist.
